Relance du Conseil agro-sylvo-pastoral : cap sur une agriculture souveraine et durable
Yesterday, October 23, 2025, the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye chaired the first session of the Higher Council for Agro-Forestry-Pastoral Orientation, a strategic body meeting for the first time in twenty years, since the adoption of the sector's orientation law.
This meeting symbolizes a pivotal moment in the refoundation of the Senegalese agricultural model, based on sustainability, food sovereignty and technological innovation.
By launching the revision of this reference law, the Head of State wants to adapt national agricultural policy to contemporary challenges linked to climate, food security and the promotion of local sectors.
The new approach advocated by the president is based on the active participation of producers, communities and economic actors, in order to build a more inclusive and equitable model.
It emphasizes local processing, the preservation of ecosystems and the promotion of connected agriculture, supported by digital tools and scientific research.
The government thus intends to bring out a generation of farmers and rural entrepreneurs capable of ensuring food security while creating sustainable jobs.
This direction marks a clear political will to place the rural world at the center of the national development strategy. Agriculture, long perceived as a subsistence sector, is becoming a driver of competitiveness and economic resilience.
By restoring the High Council's role as a strategic compass, President Diomaye Faye is placing Senegalese agricultural policy within a dynamic of sovereignty, territorial balance and long-term structural transformation.
