Statistiques commerciales : Hausse des exportations et réduction du déficit commercial en septembre
Senegal recorded a significant improvement in its trade statistics in September 2025, according to a report published by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
Senegal's exports reached 420.8 billion CFA francs in September 2025, compared to 404.7 billion CFA francs the previous month, representing a 4.0% increase. This is a record increase since the beginning of the year.
This increase is mainly due to the rise in exports of the following products: petroleum products (excluding crude oil): 95.3 billion FCFA (compared to 64.6 billion FCFA in August); crustaceans, molluscs and shellfish: 18.5 billion FCFA (compared to 11.9 billion FCFA); titanium: 5.4 billion FCFA (compared to 206.0 million FCFA); canned fish: 5.1 billion FCFA (compared to 1.0 billion FCFA).
Senegal's main customers for the first nine months of 2025 are Mali (20.1%), Italy (10.9%) and Spain (10.6%).
Lower imports and improved trade balance
Simultaneously, imports amounted to 502.7 billion FCFA in September 2025, marking a decrease of 2.9% compared to August (517.4 billion FCFA).
This decrease is primarily due to a reduction in purchases from outside of:
Rice: 26.9 billion FCFA (compared to 41.2 billion FCFA).
Petroleum products (excluding crude oil): 80.5 billion FCFA (compared to 101.8 billion FCFA).
Other land vehicles: 9.5 billion FCFA (compared to 15.4 billion FCFA).
Pharmaceutical products: 12.6 billion FCFA (compared to 18.3 billion FCFA).
The cumulative amount of imports at the end of September 2025 stands at 5224.5 billion FCFA, a slight increase of 1.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Trade balance: The deficit is narrowing
Thanks to the combination of increased exports and decreased imports, the trade balance improved significantly, reaching -81.9 billion FCFA in September 2025, compared to -112.8 billion FCFA the previous month.
This improvement is linked to the reduction of the deficit with France, the United States and Brazil, and to the strengthening of the surplus with respect to Mali (84.3 billion FCFA), Spain (33.7 billion FCFA) and the Republic of Guinea.
Nevertheless, the improvement was diminished by the reversal of the balance vis-à-vis India (deficit of -18.0 billion FCFA) and the widening of the deficit vis-à-vis China (-75.8 billion FCFA).
The cumulative trade balance for the first nine months of 2025 stands at -1126.9 billion FCFA, marking a sharp reduction compared to the deficit of -2468.2 billion FCFA recorded in the same period in 2024.
