The rural commune of Koumana, located about twenty kilometers from the urban commune of Kouroussa, was the scene of a deadly tragedy on Tuesday morning.

This was a shooting involving a couple. According to information gathered by a Seneweb Guinea correspondent based in the region, Mamoudou Condé allegedly shot his wife at point-blank range with a locally made pistol before turning the weapon on himself. Seriously wounded, the woman was rushed to the Kouroussa prefectural hospital.

At the deceased's home, sadness and dismay were etched on every face. When questioned about the circumstances of the tragedy, an elder of the family gave his account: “At dawn, we all left the mosque together. I went back to my room. As soon as I plugged in my phone, I heard a gunshot outside. I went out and asked Mamoudou what was happening. He told me that his gun had discharged accidentally and that no one had been hit. I went back to my room. Shortly after, I heard a second gunshot. When I went outside, I saw him lying in his room, covered in blood. That's when I went to inform the gendarmerie commander. There was no history of conflict between him and his wife. Even last night, they were having fun together,” he explained.

Reached by telephone, the prefectural director of health in Kouroussa, Dr. Lanciné Kourouma, provided details on the state of health of the deceased's wife: "We did indeed receive the woman in critical condition. We therefore deemed it necessary to evacuate her to Kankan, as we did not have the adequate means to manage the situation," he indicated.

At present, no official information has been released regarding the true motives behind this tragic act.
