Querelle de voisinage : Il tabasse une femme enceinte de 8 mois et risque 3 mois ferme
A neighborhood dispute in the Montagne housing project was heard this Monday in the Dakar court. The woman, G. Niom, eight months pregnant, accuses her roommate, S. Yatt, of assaulting her, causing injuries that resulted in a 10-day period of temporary incapacity for work. The incident occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, around 4:00 p.m., in a four-story building housing several families.
G. Niom, 27, a shopkeeper, claims she went to the communal restrooms where she encountered her roommate, S. Yatt, who was standing in the shower entrance. An altercation ensued. The pregnant woman says she asked her mother to intervene to calm the situation.
Despite warnings about her advanced pregnancy, she was punched several times in the face and lower abdomen. She reported heavy bleeding and a cut. Fortunately, another roommate intervened to restrain S. Yatt. She was then taken to the Gaspard Kamara health center.
A medical certificate issued by a gynecologist states post-traumatic hypogastric pain, hematomas on the right arm and in the groin crease, on an evolving intrauterine pregnancy, with a 10-day ITT.
Faced with these accusations, S. Yatt, 22, a married merchant and father of one, denied assaulting the woman. He did, however, admit to an argument that the woman started after she threw child's feces at him and insulted him. A roommate intervened before he could hit her. He claims to have filed a complaint himself for insults and assault.
In his observations, the public prosecutor requested a three-month prison sentence and a fine of 50,000 CFA francs. The defense pleaded for acquittal.
The verdict is expected on January 29, 2026.
