Sidy Diakhaté : la dépouille attendue ce vendredi à Dakar
Senegalese football has been struck by a double loss, with the tragic loss of two young players abroad. While the circumstances surrounding goalkeeper Cheikh Touré's death in Ghana are still under investigation, attention is now turning to the repatriation of Sidy Diakhaté's remains.
Sidy Diakhaté, 25, a former player for Ndiambour, Stade de Mbour, and Teungueth FC, died following a traffic accident in Benin. The tragedy occurred while he was traveling with his club, Loto-Popo FC. While crossing the road during a dinner stopover, he was reportedly struck by a poorly lit vehicle. After a week-long struggle, he succumbed to his injuries last Friday.
The Beninese club, managed by Senegalese coach Cheikh Guèye, will pay a final tribute to its player this Friday, October 24, at the Place du Bicentenaire in Cotonou and at the central mosque of Zongo.
The mortal remains will be repatriated the same day and will arrive early in the evening at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass (AIBD). The funeral prayer will take place the following day, Saturday, October 25, at the Hersent mosque (Tally Carreaux), followed by burial at the Tawa Fall cemetery, reports the sports daily Record.
