A case of domestic violence has been brought before the court in Thiès. A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. Camara, appeared in court on charges of assault and battery against his own father.
According to the complainant's statements, the incident stemmed from a dispute over the layout of the family compound. The accused had begun constructing a shelter for raising sheep, which took up a large portion of the shared space. When his father asked him to reduce the size of the shelter to preserve a decent living environment for the rest of the family, the situation escalated.
The father claims his son became enraged, hurling insults and threats, and even brandishing a weapon. Faced with this escalation, he contacted law enforcement to report his son's behavior. The son was subsequently arrested and placed in custody.
In court, Mr. Camara admitted to the charges against him and offered an apology. However, the complainant emphasized a noticeable change in his son's behavior, which he attributes to the son's association with cannabis users. He believes this shift marked the beginning of a violent attitude within the family home.
Deeming the offense sufficiently serious, the deputy public prosecutor requested a two-month prison sentence without suspension. The court has taken the case under advisement, with a verdict expected on April 20, 2026.
