TRAGÉDIE à Guinaw Rails : Gracié par le président Bassirou Diomaye Faye , un repris de justice tué une semaine après sa libération
A tragedy occurred on Monday, January 12, 2026, around 6:00 PM in Guinaw Rails. Ousmane Diagne, a 40-year-old unemployed man, was fatally stabbed during a violent altercation, according to Seneweb sources. The victim, who had been released from prison a week earlier as part of a presidential pardon granted during the New Year, was well known to the police.
The suspected murderer who turned himself in to escape lynching
The alleged murderer, Mr. Dasylva, aged 54 and claiming to be a carpenter, personally surrendered to the police to avoid being lynched by the angry mob.
Around 6 p.m., the head of the Guinaw Rails district police station was alerted to the tragedy. A police raid carried out immediately at the scene of the crime revealed the victim lying motionless, lifeless, with three serious injuries: a gaping wound on the forehead, another on the neck, and a final one below the abdomen.
A provocation that turns into tragedy
When questioned about the circumstances of the tragedy, the accused stated that the victim had repeatedly provoked him with insults and death threats. He claims he always refrained from responding to avoid any confrontation.
However, on Monday, Ousmane Diagne reportedly returned and attacked him directly, sparking a violent argument. According to Mr. Dasylva's statements, the victim attempted to stab him with a broken bottle. He then allegedly reacted violently, stabbing him three times in the body, according to Seneweb sources.
The murder weapon, a knife, was found at the scene by investigators under the direction of Chief Commissioner Pathé Gaye.
After the body was taken to the morgue by firefighters, an investigation was opened under the supervision of Prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office. The suspect was taken into custody for murder.
A complicated criminal past
According to Seneweb sources, Ousmane Diagne was well known to the police for his numerous prior offenses. He had received a presidential pardon from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye during the New Year and had been released from prison just a week ago.
This tragedy therefore comes just days after his release from detention, raising new questions about the reintegration of ex-prisoners and the prevention of recidivism.
