Insolite à Thiès : Une drague tourne à une accusation de vol de téléphone portable
A rather unusual case has landed in the courtroom in Thiès. Two men, M. Sow (23 years old), a mechanic, and C. Mbaye (22 years old), a trainee driver, both residing in Médina Fall, are being prosecuted for the violent theft of a mobile phone from the young F. Traoré.
According to the facts presented in court, the two defendants were together when the complainant walked past them. According to C. Mbaye, he had simply remarked to his friend M. Sow that the young woman was his type, thus encouraging him to approach her. M. Sow then called out to the young woman to start a conversation.
But the attempted flirtation reportedly escalated. The complainant rejected him, sparking an altercation between the two men. They are accused of having beaten the young woman before taking her cell phone.
In court, however, they denied the theft charges. Mr. Sow admitted to trying to flirt with the young woman. He also admitted to punching her because she had pushed and insulted him. However, he categorically denied stealing her cell phone.
But the public prosecutor considered the acts of robbery with violence sufficiently substantiated. He therefore requested a two-year prison sentence, with eight months to be served, for both defendants.
An aggravating factor for Mr. Sow was that he was also tried at the same hearing in another case of mobile phone theft, this time to the detriment of G. Sène.
The court has taken the case under advisement.
