Booba inculpé pour harcèlement sur la compagne de Gims
French rapper Booba, who has already been charged with harassment, was charged again on Thursday with the same offense, this time for acts involving the partner of Congolese rapper Gims, AFP learned from a source close to the case on Friday.
Asked by AFP, the prosecutor's office confirmed that Booba, whose real name is Elie Yaffa, was charged with online moral harassment resulting in incapacity for work of more than eight days, an offense punishable by sentences of up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
The rapper is prohibited from contacting the plaintiff, Demdem. His lawyers, Marie Roumiantseva and Gilles Vercken, declined to comment when contacted.
Gims and Demdem, Gandhi Djuna and Adja-Damba Dante in civil status, had filed a complaint in August 2024, denouncing acts of cyberbullying against Demdem since 2018, which they attributed to Booba.
The prosecution recalled that Gims and Demdem "accused her of comments made online, in addition to comments made during concerts. The complainant was granted a 10-day work incapacity order."
According to the prosecution, Booba was arrested on Wednesday and placed in police custody, a measure lifted the following day in preparation for his presentation to an investigating judge.
"It is satisfying that the justice system and the police have demonstrated speed and determination in arresting Mr. Yaffa and putting an end to his actions," reacted the plaintiffs' lawyer, David-Olivier Kaminski.
"To date, we have seen that Booba is the subject of several harassment proceedings against numerous victims. It is high time that these toxic and harmful acts cease!" the council added.
A figure in French-language rap since the 1990s, Booba has for several years been engaged in a crusade against influencers known as "influvoleurs" and their business practices, which are presented as deceptive.
On October 2, 2023, Booba had already been charged with aggravated online moral harassment against a "star" influencer, Magali Berdah, who had also filed a complaint.
The rapper will also be tried on December 3 for racist insults against a journalist and an essayist, as well as aggravated cyberbullying in the case of the former.
