Des centaines de billets de banque dans un centre de tri : 100 000 euros retrouvés au milieu des déchets par des employés
"We thought it was a joke." The employees at the Derichebourg sorting center in Athis-Mons (Essonne) were certainly taken aback when they discovered hundreds of banknotes hidden among the waste. The astonishing discovery was made on Wednesday, December 10th, as reported by our colleagues at Le Parisien: the bills had arrived directly at the sorting machines. Nearly €100,000 was found by the sorting center's employees.
According to a source close to the case, quoted by our colleagues, the sorting machine was quickly stopped by employees… too late, unfortunately, as some banknotes had already been shredded. Other banknotes, mixed with the waste, were soiled and wet. The employees immediately contacted the police. The banknotes were eventually sent to the Bank of France, which was responsible for authenticating them and restoring the damaged notes.
The Evry public prosecutor's office has announced the opening of a money laundering investigation. No arrests have been made in connection with this investigation so far. It is currently impossible to know the origin of the banknotes. When contacted by our colleagues, the Derichebourg company declined to comment.
