États-Unis: Donald Trump parvient à faire élire un de ses conseillers à la Réserve fédérale
The US Senate approved President Donald Trump's nomination of one of his economic advisers to the Federal Reserve (Fed) on Monday, September 15, just hours before a key meeting of the US central bank during which the level of its key interest rates is decided.
Held by the Republican presidential majority, the Senate voted 48 to 47 to confirm Stephen Miran to this post. Donald Trump has been calling for monetary easing for months to ease borrowing costs and support growth. At the same time, he has downplayed the risks of a resurgence of inflation, a prospect that has so far held back US central bankers. To speed things up, Donald Trump is trying to make room for loyalists at the top of the Fed. After threatening to fire its chairman, Jerome Powell, and calling on him to resign in vain, he is trying to push Governor Lisa Cook out. A US appeals court upheld a previous court ruling on September 15th allowing the governor to remain temporarily in office, despite Donald Trump's announcement of her dismissal.
