Insolite : Au Bangladesh, un buffle baptisé "Donald Trump" devient une star
An albino buffalo with a blond mane, nicknamed "Donald Trump," has become a social media star in Bangladesh, attracting curious onlookers. Many come to photograph him before his planned sacrifice at the end of the month, on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (Tabaski).
Its owner, Zia Uddin Mridha, says the 700 kg bull was named by his younger brother in reference to the American president's flamboyant blond hair. Many visitors to the Donald Trump "lookalike" find the resemblance striking.
According to local media, for the past month, influencers, children, and onlookers have been flocking to the farm. To keep its "hairstyle" impeccable, the buffalo is bathed four times a day.
"It is, in fact, the only luxury he enjoys. A bucket of fresh water is poured over his head, then his thick blond lock of hair, tucked between his curved horns, is brushed," the owner told AFP.
Albino buffalo, lacking melanin, are extremely rare. But for the breeder, the resemblance ends with the hair. "It's a very gentle buffalo. It eats like the others, doesn't fight over food, and shares the same stable."
Despite its fame, the 4-year-old buffalo will not escape the Eid al-Adha ritual. It will be sacrificed in a few days, like millions of other livestock in Muslim countries.
Bangladesh, a country of 170 million inhabitants with a Muslim majority, is preparing to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, on May 28. And for the occasion, more than 12 million head of livestock, including sheep, goats, cows and buffalo, are adorned with garlands, groomed and prepared before being sacrificed.
"Donald Trump" is not an isolated case. The country also has a bull named "Neymar" with a golden coat, and a bovine nicknamed "Member of Parliament".
