Italie: une bombe explose sous la voiture d'un journaliste renommé
A bomb exploded and destroyed the car of Sigfrido Ranucci, a renowned Italian journalist, on Thursday night, without causing any casualties, the investigative program Report, which he directs on the third channel of public television RAI, announced on X.
His daughter's car and the facade of her house were also damaged by the explosion, which occurred about 20 kilometers south of Rome, according to the same source.
"The force of the explosion was such that it could have killed someone if they had walked by at that precise moment," Report said, adding that an investigation has been opened.
The explosion sparked a deluge of condemnation from many political leaders of all stripes.
The head of the ultraconservative government, Giorgia Meloni, expressed her "full solidarity" with the journalist and "firmly condemned the serious act of intimidation."
"Freedom and independence of information are values of our democracy that cannot be renounced and that we will continue to defend," she added in a statement.
The Report program "made history in investigative journalism on television," it writes on its website.
"Sigfrido Ranucci and the Report team are once again at the forefront with in-depth investigations and coverage of politics, economics, and society," the website adds.
In the 2025 Reporters Without Borders (RSF) press freedom index, Italy ranks a dismal 49th.
