L’Espagne annonce une série de mesures pour « mettre fin au génocide à Gaza », Israël dénonce une « campagne antisémite »
The Spanish government, one of the most critical European voices regarding Israeli action in Gaza, has decided to "take a new step" with nine additional measures to "support the Palestinian population." Israel immediately responded by banning the Spanish Deputy Prime Minister from entering its territory.
After words, actions. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday a series of measures "to end the genocide in Gaza," including an embargo on arms sales to Israel and a ban on ships carrying fuel for Israeli soldiers docking in Spanish ports.
The Spanish government, one of the most critical European voices regarding Israeli action in Gaza, "has decided to take a new step and immediately implement nine additional measures to put an end to the genocide in Gaza, to prosecute its perpetrators and to support the Palestinian population," Pedro Sánchez announced in a statement from the government headquarters in Madrid.
"We know that all these measures will not be enough to stop the invasion , nor the war crimes, but we hope that they will contribute to putting pressure on Prime Minister (Benyamin) Netanyahu and his government to alleviate some of the suffering experienced by the Palestinian population," the socialist leader continued.
Among the measures, which will be implemented "immediately," is the approval of a law aimed at "legally consolidating the arms embargo on Israel, which we have already been applying de facto since October 2023," Pedro Sánchez said.
Likewise, all ships carrying fuel for the Israeli armed forces will be banned from calling at Spanish ports, and entry into Spanish airspace will be denied to planes carrying "military equipment intended for Israel," the head of government added.
The measures also include banning entry into Spanish territory of people "who directly participate in the genocide," banning products "from illegal settlements in Gaza and the West Bank," and limiting Spanish consular services to people residing in these settlements.
Finally, Spain will increase its aid to the Palestinians and to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Pedro Sánchez added.
