Donald Trump promised Tuesday to "fix crime" in Chicago, in the northern United States, calling it "the most dangerous city in the world, by far."
"I'm going to fix crime, just like I did in Washington," he wrote on his Truth Social platform, referring to the deployment of federal law enforcement he imposed in the US capital.
After Los Angeles in June and Washington since mid-August, the Trump administration has threatened to send federal police and military personnel, such as the National Guard, to other Democratic cities such as Chicago, New York, Baltimore and Boston.
On Sunday, US Democrats warned of a military "invasion" of Chicago.
Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, one of the Republican president's prominent opponents, accused the billionaire, whom he had previously called a "dictator," of seeking to undermine the 2026 midterm elections through this type of deployment.
JB "Pritzker desperately needs help, he just doesn't know it yet," Donald Trump added Tuesday on Truth Social.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, issued a decree intended to limit the authority of potential federal law enforcement agencies.
In Washington, where they have been deployed since mid-August, armed soldiers equipped with armored vehicles patrol the streets and the subway, particularly near national institutions and monuments.
