In the United States, a 20-year-old man died on October 1 while trying to protect his pregnant sister when they were shot by her boyfriend.
Tyler Sadowski died a hero . Law enforcement in Barron County, Wisconsin, responded to a shooting at a home on Wednesday, October 1, authorities said in a statement .
The 20-year-old man tried to protect his sister, Makayla Sadowski, 17, from the gunfire of her boyfriend , who started the shooting. The girl, who is seven months pregnant , was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, her family told police. Tyler and Makayla's relatives also said the baby was born and is doing well. Her 2-year-old child is currently being cared for by relatives.
The Barron County Sheriff's Office did not name the victims in its statement, but they were identified through a GoFundMe fundraiser created by their families. Relatives of the deceased said on the GoFundMe that Tyler died "in a heroic act of love" while trying to help his sister. "His loss has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled," the statement read.
Police also located the shooter, who apparently suffered a gunshot wound, and transported him to a medical facility. The sheriff's office announced in a new statement on October 6 that the shooter, identified as 17-year-old Marcus Hinojosa, died from his injuries. Authorities said the young man was Makayla's boyfriend. A motive for the shooting has not been released.
The investigation revealed that Makayla and her family arrived at the apartment around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, when Marcus Hinojosa, who was already there, shot them. Tyler Sadowski was shot in the doorway as he went in to check on his sister. Their mother was waiting in a car outside with Makayla's 2-year-old child.
The Barron County Sheriff's Office also said it was aware of a Snapchat video regarding the homicide and asked the social network to remove it. Contacted by People , the social network said it removed the video everywhere it was identified to ensure its users were not exposed to it.
