Un ex-joueur espagnol et trois enfants présumés morts, drame en Indonésie
Indonesia is the scene of a family tragedy that has deeply affected Spain: Fernando Martín Carreras, a former Spanish footballer and coach, is missing along with three of his children after a tourist boat capsized near Padar Island in the Komodo archipelago, east of Bali. The incident, which occurred Friday evening, involved a vessel carrying eleven people. Seven of them, including the children's mother and another minor, were rescued, but the 44-year-old former player and his three children are presumed dead.
Indonesian authorities have launched an intensive search for the four missing people. On Sunday, the third day of the search focused on pinpointing the exact location of the shipwreck. Pieces of the vessel have already been recovered, but the mission is hampered by strong currents, heavy rain, and large waves. Initial findings suggest the boat experienced engine trouble, leading to its loss at sea.
Fernando Martín, who had coached the Valencia women's B team, leaves behind a huge void for his family and the sporting community. The Spanish club expressed its devastation and offered its condolences to his loved ones. The event has caused great sorrow on the other side of the Pyrenees.
