Ousmane Sonko
The appeal to insurrection file concerning the current Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko is officially buried. Seneweb sources attest that the judge of the 1st office of the Dakar court issued, on January 27, 2025, an order of dismissal on grounds of amnesty in favor of Ousmane Sonko and President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhare Faye, who was installed in the case. The decision was notified to them through their lawyer.
Following the arrest of Ousmane Sonko on July 28, 2023 at his home, the prosecutor Abdou Karim Diop (at the time) had requested the opening of an investigation for "calling for insurrection, undermining state security, criminal association in connection with a terrorist enterprise, conspiracy against state authority, acts aimed at compromising public security and creating serious political unrest and others". The case was assigned to the senior judge Oumar Maham Diallo. Then, the leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, was charged with this string of offenses.
Furthermore, Pastef's number 2, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who was arrested in April 2023, following a Facebook post to denounce Sonko's conviction in the Adji Sarr case, saw his file joined in the proceedings.
Ultimately, the Sonko-Diomaye tandem was released after the amnesty law was passed.
