Après l’appel du parquet : Soya Diagne face à deux nouvelles plaintes
Businessman Soya Diagne, held in pretrial detention at Rebeuss prison since October, was taken from his cell this Monday. L'Observateur reports that he was brought to the Urban Security (SU) headquarters for questioning regarding two new complaints of breach of trust and fraud.
Although the presiding judge had recently granted him provisional release with an electronic tag, the appeal filed by the public prosecutor's office keeps him behind bars. These new charges further complicate his prison situation.
The first complaint, filed by Souleymane Ba Diallo, dates back to 2016, according to the newspaper Groupe Futurs Médias (GFM). The plaintiff claims to have delivered a shipment of powdered milk worth nearly 24 million CFA francs. After a 5 million CFA franc down payment, Soya Diagne allegedly submitted two checks from BSIC that bounced due to insufficient funds. During his confrontation with the victim, the accused admitted to the facts, while invoking the statute of limitations, the same source reports.
L'Observateur continues: the second complaint, filed by Mouhamadou Seck, concerns a transaction dating back to 2017. Soya Diagne allegedly ordered 400 cartons of coffee for 10.4 million CFA francs. Again, only a deposit of 1.4 million CFA francs was paid, the remainder being settled by a bounced check. When questioned by investigators, the businessman maintained the same line of defense, claiming the statute of limitations had expired.
Following his interrogation, Soya Diagne was returned to Rebeuss prison. He is initially being prosecuted for spreading false news and making statements contrary to public morals, as reported by Gfm.
