Friday, October 17: A tragic birth in front of the hospital door
It all began on the evening of Friday, October 17, 2025, between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A pregnant woman arrived at Lübke Hospital in Diourbel to give birth. Despite the urgency of the situation, the maternity staff reportedly refused to admit her, citing a lack of available space. The woman, who was about to give birth, was thus reportedly turned away.
In dramatic circumstances, the woman ended up giving birth in front of the door of the health facility according to Seneweb sources.
The baby unfortunately died shortly after birth.
Saturday, October 18: Referral to the authorities and opening of an investigation
The following day, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at around 3 p.m., the departmental prefect notified the Diourbel central police station of this matter. Informed of the seriousness of the facts, the public prosecutor at the Diourbel High Court immediately ordered the opening of an investigation.
The damning testimony of the big sister
Contacted by telephone, Ndiague Ndiaye, known as Astou, 44, a housewife living in Ngohé and the victim's older sister, confirmed the facts to investigators. Her testimony is edifying: according to her, it was only after the birth, once the tragedy had occurred, that the hospital staff finally agreed to take care of her sister and the stillborn baby.
The lifeless newborn was reportedly buried on Saturday in the village of Ngohé, without any thorough medical examination having been carried out, according to Seneweb sources.
Ndiague Ndiaye and her younger sister, Astou Ndiaye, 30, were summoned to the Diourbel central police station to be questioned as part of the investigation. Their statements are crucial in establishing responsibility for this tragedy.
Monday, October 20: Exhumation of the body for autopsy
The investigation took a decisive turn on Monday, October 20, 2025. Around 8 p.m., in the presence of the public prosecutor at the Diourbel High Court, the newborn's body was exhumed in the village of Ngohé. An autopsy is to be performed to determine the exact cause of death and establish possible medical responsibility. The first elements of the investigation by the Diourbel central police station incriminate the medical staff. The investigations continue under the supervision of deputy prosecutor Farba Ngom.

Les autorités doivent régler ces problèmes de base au lieu de nous parler d accueil.
