Procureur sénégalais de la Cpi sanctionné : Diomaye et Sonko doivent réagir selon Branco
The United States has decided to impose sanctions against judges serving at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Senegalese prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang is one of four individuals who have been targeted by the Trump administration. The administration accuses them of directly participating in the Court's efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute US or Israeli nationals. Lawyer Juan Branco believes Senegalese authorities must respond.
"Senegalese ICC Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang, who succeeded Prosecutor Karim Kahn, and French Judge Nicolas Guillou have just been sanctioned by the United States for their role in the proceedings against Israeli leaders. The authorities of the states concerned have a duty to respond and protect their nationals. I am thinking in particular of the Senegalese authorities, who chair the Committee for the Inalienable Rights of Palestine," said the Franco-Spanish lawyer. He says he himself, as a victims' lawyer, feels "targeted" by the Trump administration.
Indeed, the US State Department announced this Wednesday sanctions targeting Judges Kimberly Prost of Canada, Nicolas Guillou of France, Nazhat Shameem Khan of Fiji and prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang, our compatriot.
"These individuals are foreign nationals who have directly participated in the International Criminal Court's (ICC) efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute nationals of the United States or Israel, without the consent of either country," said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He believes the ICC poses a threat to US national security. In his view, it has served as an instrument of legal warfare against the United States and its ally Israel.
