Regardant un match au volant : Il insulte un gendarme et finit devant le tribunal
What should have been a simple traffic stop ended up in court. Young MD Dioye was tried this Tuesday, January 20, 2026, before the Dakar court of summary jurisdiction for insulting a public official in the performance of his duties.
According to the facts presented at the hearing, the defendant was watching a football match on his mobile phone while driving his vehicle in traffic. This infraction did not escape the notice of a police officer on traffic duty, who immediately pulled him over to issue a ticket. Far from complying, MD Dioye refused to produce his driving documents and became aggressive towards the officer.
The exchange turned sour. He hurled insults, even going so far as to ask the police officer, "Who do you think you're talking to?" before demanding that he call his superior. Worse still, he abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the road for nearly two hours, paralyzing traffic.
In court, MD Dioye did not deny the facts. However, he maintained that he was checking the results of a football match when the police officer stopped him, while also claiming that the officer had been disrespectful to him. "I got angry and made inappropriate remarks," he said, which led to his arrest.
When questioned about abandoning his vehicle in traffic, the defendant explained that he was feeling unwell and had gone to get his medication.
The public prosecutor considered the facts to be consistent and established, and requested a one-month prison sentence and a fine of 50,000 CFA francs. The defense pleaded for leniency from the court.
In the end, the court found MD Dioye guilty and sentenced him to one month of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 CFA francs.
