Tribunal de Pikine-Guédiawaye: L’acteur Khalil Thiam de ‘’Babel’’ condamné à 3 mois dont 15 jours ferme
TV actor Khalil Thiam appeared before the Pikine-Guédiawaye flagrante delicto court on Monday. His real name is El Hadji Moda Thioune, and he was charged with refusing to comply, endangering the lives of others, lack of insurance, and lack of a driver's license.
According to the prosecution, Khalil Thiam was stopped by a police officer conducting a traffic control mission at the Brioche Dorée roundabout. The officer claims to have seen the vehicle driven by the defendant coming off the bridge. After ordering him to stop, he asked him for the documents relating to his driving (driver's license, registration document, insurance). Pretending to look for these documents, the actor finally accelerated and fled the scene.
The officer immediately alerted the Condors traffic control officers stationed at the SIPRES roundabout, giving them the vehicle's details. As soon as they spotted it, the Condors ordered the driver to stop. The driver veered off into an alleyway in an attempt to evade the police. In turn, the Condors contacted officers from the Rufisque central police station.
When the vehicle arrived at the Naby Clinic roundabout, the police again ordered the actor to stop. But determined to flee, he drove towards them before turning onto a sandy road, where he was eventually stopped.
Arrested and taken to the police station, he was found to have no driver's license, registration document, or insurance. His relatives subsequently produced his driver's license while he was in police custody.
In court, Khalil Thiam admitted the facts and apologized, explaining that he had been afraid because he did not have the requested documents at the time of the inspection.
In his indictment, the public prosecutor requested a three-month prison sentence. The defense, led by Mr. Famara Faty and others, requested clemency from the court.
At the end of the proceedings, Khalil Thiam was sentenced to three months in prison, including 15 days in prison, and a fine of 300,000 CFA francs.
