Canal+ Sénégal et la hausse de redevance : Un impact sur le pouvoir d’achat des citoyens ?
Economist and candidate for the National MEER coordination, Samba Sy, strongly criticizes the Senegalese government's decision to increase Canal+'s license fee to 9% of its turnover, a measure followed by a 10% increase in the audiovisual group's packages.
According to Sy, this increase, which would bring the license fee to approximately 4.95 billion FCFA in 2025 (on a hypothetical turnover of 55 billion, including the increase), is entirely passed on to Senegalese subscribers, aggravating their loss of purchasing power. He estimates that Canal+ retains net revenues slightly higher than those of 2024 (50.05 billion against 50 billion), leaving citizens to indirectly bear this tax.
For Sy, this situation reflects the inability of the state, under the leadership of Pastef and Ousmane Sonko, to invest or mobilize external funds, contenting itself with levying on an already weakened population. He emphasizes that this logic extends to other sectors, fueling the idea of a government that "robs the common people" without an alternative strategy.

C’est à l’état d’imposer mais c’est à elle aussi le droit de protéger ces concitoyens
Sinon Canal + c’est une vraie arnaque
