Discours religieux : les médias invités à devenir des acteurs majeurs de la citoyenneté et de la cohésion sociale
The national workshop on "Religious discourse in Senegal and its role in consolidating citizenship, the values of living together and in promoting social peace" ended with a strong call for responsibility from journalists and communicators.
Organized by the Directorate of Religious Affairs, the meeting brought together spiritual guides, researchers, state representatives, educators and media professionals from across the country in Saly.
Professor Djim Dramé, Director of Religious Affairs, praised the involvement of journalists in spreading a message of peace and cohesion.
"Religion, far from being a factor of division, is on the contrary an instrument of unity, stability and national construction," he maintained.
The Secretary of State for Culture, Mouhamed Makhtar Loum, also insisted on the decisive role of the media in preserving community life.
According to him: "the media must be the vectors of authentic, soothing and educational religious speech, and not the relay of distorted or conflict-producing remarks."
According to him, the government will continue to support religious media productions so that they contribute to strengthening citizenship, civic spirit and social peace.
"Communication, used well, is a tool for peace; used poorly, it can become an instrument of division," he warned.
Participants unanimously praised the Senegalese model of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, while calling for stronger collaboration between religious authorities, public institutions and the media.
