The city of Saint-Louis is preparing to honor the memory of Amadou Louis Mbarrick Fall, better known as Battling Siki, on the centenary of his assassination. From December 13 to 15, 2025, several events will be organized to celebrate the life and legacy of this world boxing champion, an iconic figure in African sporting history.

At the heart of this commemoration, two international conferences will bring together researchers, historians, and boxing specialists. Around the theme "Discovering and promoting the career of Amadou Louis Mbarrick Fall, known as Battling Siki: a memorial imperative," the speakers will trace the exceptional trajectory of this Senegalese boxer, the first African to be crowned world champion in 1922. A retrospective exhibition will complement these discussions.

Unpublished archives, period photographs, rare documents and personal objects will allow the public to delve into the life of Battling Siki, from his meteoric rise in European rings to his tragic fate in New York in 1925. A way to restore this long-forgotten pioneer of world sporting history to his rightful place.

The celebration will continue with a cultural evening featuring performances by the traditional Fanal de Saint-Louis troupe, artistic shows, and an international boxing gala. A festive occasion to honor the memory of the champion while showcasing the rich heritage of Saint-Louis.

Boxing matches and demonstrations will also be organized to highlight Battling Siki's major role in the development of the sport in Senegal and Africa. These activities aim to serve as a springboard to encourage the next generation and discover new talent.

The commemorations will conclude with a moment of reflection at Battling Siki's grave, accompanied by a reading from the Quran and prayers. A simple and symbolic ceremony to honor the memory of this hero who died too young.

Marième Fall, president of the organizing committee and granddaughter of Batling Siki, emphasized the importance of this tribute. "We are celebrating a world champion, a war hero. The memory of Battling Siki can bring a lot to Saint-Louis," she stated.

She also praised the municipality's involvement and announced that a lasting partnership would be established after the festivities to further promote this historical figure. For her, Battling Siki remains a source of inspiration. "He wasn't just a boxer. He embodied the resilience, determination, and pride of an entire continent. One hundred years after his cowardly assassination, it is our duty to pass on his story and inspire our youth."

Through this large-scale international commemoration, Saint-Louis intends to revive the memory of a long-overlooked champion and reaffirm Battling Siki's place in the pantheon of great African figures.
