Ziguinchor : Le monde éducatif en deuil
The education sector in Ziguinchor is in mourning on the eve of the start of the school year. Alpha Barry, the president of the regional parents' association (APE), passed away yesterday, Saturday. The unanimous testimony of the IEF and the IA salutes the man's memory.
"It is with deep sadness and deep emotion that the Inspector of Education and Training (IEF) of Ziguinchor announces the death of Mr. Alpha Barry, President of the Parents' Association, which occurred this Saturday, October 4, 2025. [...]. Alpha Barry was a committed partner, a man of dialogue and a fervent defender of education in our region. His constant dedication to the cause of students and the improvement of the education system will remain engraved in our memories," reads the IEF press release.
In this painful circumstance, the Ziguinchor Academy Inspectorate offers its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased as well as to the entire educational community. "United in prayer," emphasizes Papa Gorgui Ndiaye.
After training in the years 1957 at the teachers' school, at the normal course of Mbour, then in Ziguinchor (Djignabo high school), marked by obtaining a professional diploma as a teacher, Alpha Barry made his first proofs in Mbloum, in the commune of Niaguis, in 1960.
A distinguished educator and teacher, Alpha, after years of delivering knowledge to children, whom he nicknamed "the nursery," continued to serve the school until his death.
The funeral is scheduled for this Sunday.

Une grosse perte pour le corps enseignant, mais également le monde politique sénégalais. Car Alpha Barry a eu à occuper pendant des années l'école du Parti Socialite de Ziguinchor. Un dirigeant au commerce facile, disponible et serviable s'en est allé. Que la terre lui soit légère. Amine

Alpha Barry était un homme de bien. Disponible et généreux. Enseignant et formateur émérite, il était ouvert et humble. Sa disparition est aussi une grande perte pour le monde de la culture. Grand Alpha manquera bcp à notre chère ville de Ziguinchor. Paix à son âme.
Kaaw Thierno Aladji Alpha s'en est allé après une mission exaltante en ce monde. Il est un père pour tous les acteurs culturels qui l'ont côtoyé. Kaaw est un homme pieux, aimable, doux, auprès duquel on se forme à aimer son prochain. Que Allah l'accueille en son Paradis. Condoléances au monde de la culture et à sa famille.
