Magal de Porokhane : Les préparatifs vont bon train
The Magal of Porokhane, commemorating the passing of the mother of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of Mouridism, is scheduled for January 29, 2026. A regional development committee (CRD) meeting was held this Wednesday in Kaolack to prepare for this religious event. The meeting took place in the presence of all department heads and the organizing committee, led by Serigne Bass Abdou Khadre Mbacké. Many commitments were made by the department heads to ensure the smooth running of the ceremony.
According to the governor of Kaolack, "the goal is to mobilize all regional services for the successful organization of the Magal of Porokhane." He added, "A number of issues and points of interest were discussed, including security matters. A thousand members of the security forces will be deployed, given the importance we place on security for this religious event. Particular emphasis will be placed on traffic management, which will be handled jointly by the gendarmerie and the police. While Porokhane falls within the gendarmerie's jurisdiction, the religious event extends into the police's area of responsibility, specifically the municipalities of Nioro and Kaolack, which will be affected."
In terms of public health prevention, the Regional Health Directorate has ensured the deployment of an advanced medical team and a substantial supply of medications. Forty ambulances will be mobilized, in addition to the resources of the national fire brigade. For the water sector, the water supply will utilize five boreholes. The system will be managed from Nioro. Similarly, for the electricity supply to the religious city, Senelec will be on hand with five generators.
These commitments were welcomed by the chairman of the organizing committee, Serigne Bass Abdou Khadre Mbacké.
