NOTTO DIOBASS : La population réclame la relance du DAC ou la restitution des terres aux paysans

On Wednesday, November 19th, the national coordinator of the National Program for Community Agricultural Domains (PRODAC), Dr. Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Ngom, visited the Notto Diobass Community Agricultural Domain (DAC). The objective was to present the project's progress, identify priority needs, meet and exchange ideas with local stakeholders, and mobilize territorial authorities around the project in order to revitalize the domain's activities.

For Mbaye Sène, president of the Notto Diobass Youth Council, the time for talk is over; now is the time for action. "To reassure the people, words alone are no longer enough. We need to find solutions to implement the DAC (Agricultural Development Project). It's been almost ten years since these lands were confiscated from poor farmers without them being able to cultivate them. If the State cannot implement the DAC, it must return these lands to their owners so they can farm them," demanded Mr. Sène.

He emphasized that former President Macky Sall, the initiator of the DACs (Local Development Action Programs), had spoken extensively about reviving PRODAC activities. However, Mbaye Sène observes that nothing has been done so far. "The young people of Diobass want the DACs revived because they understand it's a crucial program for job creation. The rhetoric is no longer reassuring, because when the President makes a promise that isn't kept, it's a serious problem," Mr. Sène stated.

According to him, the cessation of DAC activities is an obstacle for farmers. He stated that 1,000 hectares have been allocated in Diobass for this project, depriving some farmers of their land. "Many farmers want to cultivate their fields, but they are prevented by the town hall because of the DAC. No one knows the boundaries of the DAC's land area. This is an injustice that must be corrected. The authorities should provide us with these boundaries so that farmers can know where to cultivate their fields," he declared.
