Kaffrine : Plus de 600 patients consultés, 229 circoncisions et 133 échographies offertes au poste de santé de Ndiao Bambaly

The Association of Head Nurses of the Kaffrine Health District (AMIICP) held the third edition of its free consultation and screening day this past weekend, a community health initiative aimed at improving access to healthcare for rural populations. This year's event, chaired by Omar Diémé, Deputy Sub-Prefect of Katakel, took place at the Ndiao Bambaly health post, following previous years in Kathiotte and Gniby.

Over 600 people consulted

According to Mamadou Badji, president of AMIICP, the goal is to bring healthcare closer to the population and to detect chronic diseases early. In total, more than 600 people were seen for various conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, hepatitis B, and PCA screening, which allows for the evaluation of potential prostate cancer.

Of all those tested, four cases of hepatitis B were identified. "These individuals carry the virus, but this does not mean that the disease has manifested," explained Mr. Badji. They will be referred to the specialist physician at the Thierno Birahim Ndao Regional Hospital in Kaffrine for appropriate care.

Advice and awareness-raising on behavioral disorders

Medical teams also used this day to raise awareness about lifestyle-related diseases, particularly diabetes and high blood pressure. Recommendations focused on reducing salt, sugar, and fat intake; promoting a balanced diet; and

the adoption of regular physical activity.

229 circumcised boys and 133 women benefited from an ultrasound

In addition to medical consultations, AMIICP performed circumcisions on 229 boys, a procedure in high demand among rural families. Pregnant women also received significant support. One hundred and thirty-three obstetric ultrasounds were conducted free of charge, allowing for better prenatal care.

Baye Thiam, head nurse of the Ndiao Bambaly post and member of AMIICP, called on administrative and territorial authorities to include these days in the official departmental agenda, strengthen logistical and financial support, in order to ensure the sustainability of these public health actions.

Presiding over the ceremony, the deputy sub-prefect, Omar Diémé, congratulated the association for "this excellent community health initiative." He also encouraged the organizers to consider, at future events, awareness panels on chronic diseases, in order to broaden the educational impact on the population.

Through this third edition, AMIICP reaffirms its commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the population, promoting early detection, and encouraging prevention throughout the Kaffrine health district. This initiative has been welcomed by community stakeholders and local authorities, who hope to see it continue.
