Kédougou : Deux cas humains de fièvre de la Vallée du Rift confirmés à Bantaco et Salémata.
Rift Valley fever has resurfaced in the Kédougou region. Two human cases have just been confirmed by health authorities, in Bantaco (Kédougou district) and in Salémata.
Simple cases, but under surveillance
According to the information gathered, these are isolated cases not requiring hospitalization. The patient in Salémata is reportedly a livestock farmer, raising concerns about possible transmission through contact with infected animals, the primary route of contamination for this viral disease.
The two cases were officially confirmed yesterday. Immediately, medical teams from the health districts of Kédougou and Salémata mobilized to launch epidemiological investigations in the field and organize the response.
Emergency measures have been activated.
Joint teams of human and animal health technicians are traveling throughout the affected areas to identify any additional cases and raise awareness. The goal is to contain the spread of the virus and protect the population.
A disease to monitor closely
Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes or through contact with sick animals. It particularly affects livestock farming areas and can cause significant economic losses in herds.
Health authorities are urging the public to be cautious and to report any suspected cases to health facilities without delay. They also recommend avoiding all direct contact with sick or dead animals and using mosquito repellent.
