Le ministère de la Santé alerte : 277 cas confirmés, 22 décès liés à la fièvre de la vallée du Rift et de Mpox
The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has released an update on the epidemiological situation related to two diseases currently under surveillance in Senegal: Rift Valley fever (RVF) and MPOX. The press release provides updates on the number of recorded cases, the affected areas, and recommendations for the population.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, Senegal has recorded 277 confirmed cases of Rift Valley fever, including 22 deaths and two recoveries. The Saint-Louis region remains the epicenter of the epidemic with 240 cases spread notably in the district of Richard-Toll (126 cases), Saint-Louis (71 cases), Podor (16 cases), Pété (7 cases) and Dagana district (20 cases).
Other regions are also affected, namely Matam with 13 cases (Thilogne 8, Kanel 2, Matam 2, Ranérou 1). Louga 12 cases, Fatick 8 cases (Diofior 6, Fatick 2), Linguère 5 cases, Keur Momar Sarr 2 cases, Sakal 2 cases, Dahra 2 cases, Kaolack 2 cases (Kaolack 1, Nioro 1)
Dakar 2 cases (Keur Massar 1, Sangalkam 1).
Health authorities are continuing epidemiological surveillance and rapid response in affected areas.
Mpox: 7 confirmed cases, no deaths
Regarding Mpox disease, 7 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases have been recorded since the appearance of the first case on August 22, 2025. All cases are located in the Dakar region.
To date, 8 patients have recovered, no deaths have been recorded and 30 contact persons are currently undergoing health monitoring.
Call for vigilance and compliance with preventive measures
The Ministry of Health calls on the entire population to be vigilant and to strictly adhere to preventive measures, including personal hygiene, symptom monitoring and collaboration with health teams and community relays.
The mobilization of all is essential to slow the spread of these two diseases and protect the most vulnerable communities.
