The radiology on-call service at the Thierno Mansour Barro Hospital in Mbour has been out of service since October 7, 2025, plunging the population into a health situation deemed "critical".
Radiology technicians have decided to suspend their on-call duties after several months of unanswered demands. They are specifically requesting payment of on-call bonuses owed since October 2024 for some staff members, according to a letter addressed to the hospital director.
"After several months of warnings, the radiology department technicians have decided to stop providing on-call radiology services as of October 7, 2025. They are demanding months of back pay for on-call shifts from Polimed (since October 2024 for some, they say). Given this situation, we wish to inform you that there is no longer a team to provide on-call radiology services, which are therefore forced to cease as of today. Furthermore, CT scan on-call services, which are strictly dependent on these services, will not be available from the same date," writes Dr. Mamadou Fall, Head of the Radiology Department.
Thus, such a decision entails the total cessation of emergency imaging examinations, including brain scans, which are essential in cases of stroke, head trauma, traffic accidents and other life-threatening emergencies.
With no alternatives within the public hospital system, many patients are forced to turn to private clinics, where costs can be unsustainable.
In an economic context marked by a rising cost of living, this situation is becoming untenable for many families. Some are even forgoing medical examinations, at the risk of worsening their health.
The “Mbour Justice” movement is issuing a cry for help.
Faced with the seriousness of this situation, the citizen movement Mbour Justice issued a statement denouncing what it calls the "unacceptable negligence" of the health authorities.
"Fébar té meunounio fadiou - Disease does not warn," the movement reminds us, adding that the silence surrounding this crisis is putting lives at risk.
The group is calling on the State, the hospital management and health partners to intervene urgently to restore services.
"Health is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right. What is happening in Mbour cannot continue. Basic services must be restored without delay," urges Mbour Justice.
