Vente illicite de médicaments : Le procès de Diourbel renvoyé pour la 4e fois, le syndicat des pharmaciens hausse le ton
The trial between the Senegalese Private Pharmacists' Union (SPPS), the Order of Pharmacists, the SEN-PNA, and the Senegalese Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP) and the illegal distributors in Touba has been postponed once again. For the fourth consecutive time, the case could not be heard, due in part to the unavailability of certain lawyers, both for the civil party and the defendants. This new postponement provided a platform for Dr. Boubacar Sy, Secretary General of the SPPS, to launch a vigorous plea for mobilization against the illicit sale of medicines.
The pharmacist pointed out that this scourge transcends local borders. "The fight against the illicit sale of medicines on the street must be everyone's business: pharmacists, doctors, journalists, in short, the entire population. This is not a problem for Diourbel, Touba, Dakar, or Kaolack."
According to him, there are official channels and sworn professionals to ensure the distribution of medicines and no one should bypass them.
Dr. Sy denounced a practice that he considers degrading and dangerous for the health of the population. "We must no longer allow this practice to flourish, as it has harmful consequences. The State must be at the forefront of this fight, because it subsidizes chronic diseases with billions."
He also welcomed the determination shown by the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, to eradicate this black market, while calling for people to remain firm in this fight.
In anticipation of the next hearing scheduled for October 21, the Secretary General of the SPPS made a solemn appeal to his peers. "All pharmacists in Senegal are called upon to mobilize, because we are fighting for the right cause," he declared.
The Senegalese Private Pharmacists' Union intends to maintain the pressure so that this trial finally succeeds and the fight against the illicit sale of medicines reaches a decisive milestone.
