Accident mortel d'un jakartaman à la Patte d’Oie : 10 jours ferme pour le chauffeur du bus Tata
Driver Mor Guèye Diop appeared before the Dakar Magistrates' Court on February 4, 2026, on charges of involuntary manslaughter. Placed in pretrial detention on February 2, he was being prosecuted for a fatal accident that occurred last Friday on the highway near the Patte d'Oie interchange.
The victim, young Khadim Ndiaye, had attempted to overtake the bus on the right on his motorcycle. The impact was fatal. The exceptionally violent accident sparked outrage among the other motorcyclists, some of whom set fire to the bus in retaliation.
In court, Mor Guèye Diop admitted to the facts. He stated that the victim had overtaken him on the right and was not wearing a helmet. He emphasized that his vehicle had all the necessary driving documents before pleading for leniency from the court, while also paying tribute to the deceased.
When questioned, the victim's brother, representing the family, indicated that he was not seeking damages. Visibly moved, he stated that the family did not want to take the responsibility of asserting that the driver had committed an offense, as no member had witnessed the accident. According to the judge, the family had already forgiven the driver since the preliminary inquiry.
The public prosecutor requested the application of the criminal law. The defense, represented by lawyers Mansour Ndiongue and Ibrahima Mbengue, requested leniency in the application of the law.
In the end, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 10 days in prison.
