Arrestation Maïmouna Ndour Faye et Babacar Fall : Sénégal Sunu Yitté dénonce de graves dérives qui menacent la démocratie et les libertés fondamentales
Sénégal Sunu Yitté condemns the "serious abuses that threaten democracy and fundamental freedoms in Senegal." The movement strongly denounces "the arbitrary arrest of journalists Maïmouna Ndour Faye (director of 7TV) and Babacar Fall (RFM). These arrests, related to the exercise of their profession, constitute an unacceptable threat to freedom of information and the pluralism of opinions."
The movement rejects "the restrictions imposed on the media (signal cuts, bans on reporting) which reveal an attempt to muzzle the press and a dictatorial drift", and "the use of judicial mechanisms to settle political disputes, betraying the democratic values of Senegal".
Sénégal Sunu Yitté demands "the immediate and unconditional release of Maïmouna Ndour Faye and Babacar Fall; absolute respect for freedom of the press, the right to inform and be informed, in accordance with the Constitution and the country's international commitments", in addition to "the immediate cessation of all pressure or intimidation against the media".
The movement calls on the national and international community to "mobilize in defense of the rule of law" and reiterates that "freedom of expression is sacred."
