Casamance : le CNAMS relance les opérations de déminage
The National Mine Action Center in Senegal (CNAMS) has announced the upcoming resumption of demining operations in Casamance. Its new director, Salomon Diédhiou, confirmed this in Ziguinchor during a demonstration, while emphasizing the scale of the challenges to be met, particularly the extent of the contaminated areas and the essential logistical resources required.
Japan has already provided significant support by supplying heavy equipment for demining operations. However, this equipment requires suitable vehicles to transport machines weighing nearly 30 tons. "Our biggest problem in Casamance regarding demining is the size of the area and the resources we have available to do the work," explained Salomon Diédhiou.
The CNAMS is currently working on establishing accreditation procedures for organizations specializing in mine action. Two organizations have already obtained accreditation, while other applications are under review. The process should be finalized in the coming days, paving the way for the official launch of operations.
The director also welcomed the availability of qualified personnel and the necessary equipment to strengthen mine action. An official ceremony will mark the resumption of activities, with the participation of the media and relevant stakeholders.
Through this relaunch, the Senegalese authorities reaffirm their ambition to achieve the “zero mine” objective across the entire national territory by 2030-2031.
