Colère des livreurs : « Payés à 100 FCFA, rackettés sur la route », Guy Marius Sagna fustige l'exploitation
The streets rumbled with protests on Friday, January 16, 2026. Delivery workers in Senegal, pillars of the local economy, took to the streets to denounce their precarious working conditions. Joining them was Member of Parliament Guy Marius Sagna, who spoke on behalf of these young people, whom he described as "tired, exploited, and victims of numerous forms of harassment."
The parliamentarian delivered a scathing indictment of digital platforms, specifically mentioning Yango. He accused them of imposing derisory rates, with deliveries sometimes paid between 100 and 200 CFA francs. "These levels of remuneration are unacceptable and do not allow delivery drivers to earn a decent living," he insisted, pointing to a form of digital "underemployment."
The double burden: exploitation and extortion
According to the MP, the financial insecurity of delivery drivers is compounded by insecurity on the roads. Guy Marius Sagna strongly denounced the abuses of certain law enforcement officers. He cited systematic extortion practices where the sums demanded reach at least 6,000 CFA francs, thus significantly reducing the already meager incomes of these workers.
Faced with this crisis, the MP is calling on the government to move from words to action. Although reforms have been announced, he urges the relevant ministries to accelerate the cleanup and regulation of this sector, which generates thousands of jobs.
A call for collective responsibility
While defending the rights of delivery drivers, Guy Marius Sagna also urged them to regularize their administrative status. For him, regularization is a protective measure: it is essential to guarantee their own legal security and that of Senegalese citizens.
The challenge is now clear: to transform this informal and unregulated sector into a structured profession, protected by legislation adapted to the digital age, in order to put an end to what the MP considers to be "modern exploitation".
