Démolition d'un restaurant à Thiès : L'emploi de 40 jeunes mis en jeu
The owner of the "Kawsara" restaurant is forced to pack up and leave by Friday, October 31, 2025. After being informed of the demolition of his restaurant located on the strategic axis of Avenue Caen, the owner Mame Cheikh Ndoye received a summons from the mayor of the City of Thiès.
Mr. Ndoye acknowledged having been informed for a long time, but never formally notified. "I was told about the demolition of my restaurant, but I was never officially notified. The mayor then served me with a summons to vacate the premises by Friday, October 31st. When I went to see the Governor, he told me that the restaurant had to be demolished because the State needed the space. He made it clear to me that the State owed me nothing," Mame Cheikh Ndoye stated. He then clarified that he never refused to leave the premises, but that there should have been support measures, given the significant investment he had made in establishing the business. Mame Cheikh Ndoye is therefore appealing to state authorities to protect the 40 employees his restaurant employs.
According to the Thiès city hall, the "Kawsara" restaurant will be demolished to make way for a major intersection. "As part of road infrastructure work to improve traffic flow and facilitate access to the toll highway, the "Kawsara" restaurant, located on the strategic Avenue Caen near the El Hadji Malick Sy high school, will be demolished to create a major intersection. Beyond the objective of completing the new road connecting the city to the toll highway, this decision also addresses a road safety imperative," the city hall stated. They further emphasized that the restaurant's presence on this road creates poor visibility, which is the cause of numerous traffic accidents.
