Arrested and brought before the prosecutor's office on Monday by the Grand-Yoff police station, 22-year-old Mr. Faye was caught red-handed stealing in a place of worship. The incident occurred on March 19 at the Arafat Mosque, around 5 p.m., according to Libération. Taking advantage of the large crowd, the accused stole the cell phone of one of the worshippers, A. Diédhiou, while the latter was praying.
The victim, realizing his phone was missing as the thief left, managed to intercept him immediately. Taken to the police station with the phone still in his possession, Faye confessed. Although he claimed he had initially gone to the mosque to pray, he admitted to succumbing to temptation during his devotion. To justify his actions, the young man offered investigators a peculiar explanation: "I blame Satan." Claiming it was the first time he had committed such an act, he was handed over to the authorities, the same source added.
