The Carabinieri of Catania (the second largest city in Sicily, Italy) have arrested seven people accused of committing armed robberies in several villas in the province. The six suspects were taken into custody, while the seventh is under house arrest.
Among the imprisoned suspects is a certain K. Kassé. According to Les Échos, which provided the information, he is Senegalese and served as the gang's witch doctor. "Before each operation, [he] performed an esoteric ritual intended to 'protect' the robbery and ensure a successful outcome," the newspaper states.
The same source reports that the case is under investigation and that "the investigation is based on telephone tapping, surveillance and, above all, on CCTV footage from the victim's home." It adds that "despite the criminals' attempt to erase the evidence by taking the cameras and modems, the recordings could not be used by investigators."
Investigators went after the criminals after they attacked an Italian businessman in his forties. According to Les Echos, the victim was walking with his partner and their sixteen-month-old baby "when he was forced to follow the criminals, one of whose cars was displaying a blue flashing light. Under the pretext of an investigation into arms trafficking, the fake agents escorted him home."
In front of his family, the newspaper details, the entrepreneur was tied up, beaten, and threatened with the amputation of a finger and the kidnapping of his child if he did not cooperate. He complied by handing the attackers 16,000 euros (10.4 million CFA francs) in cash in addition to jewelry and watches worth more than 60,000 euros (39 million CFA francs), the daily newspaper estimates.
"The robbers then forced him to drive them to a second residence, still in Misterbianco, where they obtained more than 100,000 euros (65 million CFA francs) in addition," the newspaper continues. It reports that the investigations already carried out "have revealed a highly structured organization, operating according to a quasi-paramilitary logic, with reconnaissance, coordinated interventions, and internal discipline."

58 ans ! Tant pis pour lui .
