« J'ai crié en vain » : séquestrée et violée en pleine célébration du Laylatoul Khadr
Accused of rape, kidnapping, and abduction of a minor, A. Diaw (16 years old at the time of the events), Mr. Camara, a 22-year-old electromechanical engineering student, faces a sentence of 20 years in prison. The verdict is expected on June 2nd, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing before the Criminal Court.
According to the same source, the events date back to April 2023, during Ramadan, in an apartment in the MTOA neighborhood. Under the pretext of attending Nafila prayers, the victim went to the accused's apartment. She remained missing for nearly 48 hours, triggering a desperate search by her family throughout Keur Massar.
Two irreconcilable versions in court
In court, the accused pleaded "love at first sight" and a consensual relationship. To try to prove his claims, he presented screenshots of WhatsApp messages and maintained that the young woman had stayed of her own free will, even going so far as to "burn incense to perfume his lair."
The victim, now 19 years old, denounces what she calls a deliberate ambush that occurred on the night of the Laylatul Qadr celebration. She recounts being invited inside while the accused was performing his ablutions, before he locked the doors and windows. "He forced me, he undressed me," she says, her voice thick with trauma. During her 24 hours in detention, she claims to have "screamed in vain," trapped in an isolated apartment while her attacker went out to dinner.
The prosecutor's relentless indictment
The newspaper notes that Mr. Camara's nonchalant attitude irritated the judge, who promptly reprimanded him for his smiles, which were deemed annoying. Faced with this stance, the prosecution took a firm stance: the prosecutor emphasized that "a minor cannot consent" and that her confinement legally constituted kidnapping. For the magistrate, the crime was established, thus justifying the request for the maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment.
The emotion of the civil party
The trial was marked by the poignant testimony of the victim's mother, who recounted two nights spent wandering in vacant lots searching for her daughter. Her heart-wrenching plea to the court, "That he restore my daughter's virginity," deeply moved the courtroom, according to the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias.
