The celebration of Dakar's regional day, held this Monday, December 29, 2025, at the CICES, marked a turning point in the management of local authorities. Conceived as a tool for social mobilization, this meeting brought together the capital's key stakeholders around a common ambition: to move from words to action in order to address the demographic pressure and economic challenges of the region.

Under the theme "Territorial Transformation and Inclusive Development," this gathering allowed for the laying of concrete milestones. Faced with persistent problems such as urban mobility, waste management, and youth unemployment, the authorities advocated a paradigm shift based on operational mobilization and measurable commitments.

47% of the investment budget for local authorities

The day's key announcement came from Mr. Seydi, representing the Mayor of Dakar. Demonstrating a commitment to concrete action, he revealed that 47% of the city of Dakar's investment will be dedicated to local communities for the year 2026. This substantial budgetary effort aims specifically to support women and youth through the strengthening of financing structures such as FODEM.

"Our role is to build a region where local entrepreneurs are supported and equal opportunities are guaranteed," he stated, stressing that economic development must remain at the service of humanity.

Towards integrated and united territories

The Deputy Governor of Dakar, Ms. Sadio, for her part, emphasized the need to rethink territorial organization. According to her, it is imperative to better connect urban and rural areas to guarantee equitable access to opportunities. "It is by creating integrated territories that we can foster sustainable growth without leaving anyone behind," she stated.

This vision was shared by the Dakar Chamber of Trades, which pledged to strengthen synergies between local artisans and public and private companies. Authorities also took advantage of the Dakar International Fair (FIDAC) to commend the expertise of the region's entrepreneurs, describing the event as a showcase of Dakar's economic dynamism.

The meeting concluded on a firm note: the transformation of the capital can no longer be achieved through mere words. Technical services, civil society, and financial partners are now called upon to commit to specific and coordinated actions. The message is clear: Dakar's future hinges on its ability to translate these financial commitments into visible and lasting improvements for the daily lives of its people.
