The commune of Niamone, in the department of Bignona, a locality populated mainly by Bainouk people, has been striving for years to revitalize its cultural and historical identity through cultural events. This aims to foster social cohesion, unity, and peace; boost the local economy through collective and community initiatives; and reposition and promote the commune by restoring the cultural identity of the Bainouk, the first ethnic group to settle in Casamance.

A gamble that has paid off today, according to the mayor who has drawn a positive assessment of these cultural days in Niamone since their creation four years ago.

For Atab Badji, these festivities allowed people and young people who did not interact to discover each other and establish community living, to revitalize agricultural activities, with the initiative "One ASC, one field" and "One village, one valley".

Another positive aspect: the festival is now visited by university professors and communities from the country, the sub-region and outside the continent.

That is why the mayor of Niamone has argued for the festival to be included in the national agenda.

"Today, the Bainouk people are being revived and their culture is being reinvigorated here in Casamance," exclaimed Atab Badji.

Furthermore, he urged the authorities to facilitate the socio-economic development of his municipality through its connectivity with the rest of the Bignona department. This involves the completion of the Niamone loop, which will pass through Affiniam and Bignona, and the Fogny loop, which will connect Niamone to the Kalounayes area.
