Marché central de Rufisque : La BNLPC saisit des médicaments frauduleux d'une contrevaleur de 7 millions F CFA

As part of the fight against the sale of counterfeit medicines, a large-scale operation was carried out this Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the central market of Rufisque. The National Brigade for the Fight Against Piracy and Counterfeiting (BNLPC) of the national police, in collaboration with inspectors from the Senegalese Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP), dismantled an illegal drug sales network.

The raid by BNLPC agents, accompanied by ARP inspectors, on the central market of Rufisque, was aimed at putting an end to the illegal sale of medicines taking place in this commercial location.

This is how three stalls and a canteen involved in the illegal sale of medicines were dismantled. These sales points operated in the open air, endangering public health with uncontrolled pharmaceutical products.

Police arrested A. Thiaw, born in 1962, as he was about to close his stall. However, the owners of the three tables managed to escape after sensing the police presence. The seized medications were gathered into six bags and handed over to the police. The total value of the seizure is estimated at seven million CFA francs, according to Seneweb sources.

The confiscated pharmaceuticals cover several therapeutic classes, including antifungals, antiasthmatics, analgesics, antiulcers, antihistamines, dietary supplements, anabolics and various other prohibited products.

The investigation continues to identify and apprehend the other members of this illegal drug sales network.
