Mbour : pour payer un charlatan, il loue une Ford, la met en gage et écope d’un nouveau mandat de dépôt
Already imprisoned since 2024 for fraud, PM Diop, who presents himself as a real estate agent, has just been remanded in custody again in a case of breach of trust involving a vehicle. In its edition of Tuesday, December 16, L'Observateur reports that he was taken from his cell to answer new charges of breach of trust and the fraudulent pledging of a vehicle.
The events date back to July 2023, according to the same source. On that day, PM Diop rented a Ford Fusion in a parking lot in Mbour for 15,000 FCFA per day. Barely in possession of the vehicle, he falsely presented himself as its owner and pawned it to obtain a loan of 3.4 million CFA francs from a woman, S. Faye.
After receiving the money, he disappeared without ever honoring his repayment commitment. When questioned by investigators, the accused admitted to the acts, explaining that he had acted in an attempt to settle a 52 million debt owed to a charlatan.
While the vehicle's rightful owner, Mr. Thioye, was pursuing every possible avenue to recover his property, S. Faye, tired of waiting, finally transferred the vehicle registration to her name after several months. It was only upon learning that PM Diop was already in custody for other fraudulent activities that Mr. Thioye filed a complaint on December 11th.
Following this new procedure, PM Diop was again brought before the prosecutor and placed under a second detention order, adds the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group.
