Modèle de gestion de marché central aux poissons : Une délégation malienne en immersion à Kaolack

As part of the cooperation between the two consular institutions, the Kaolack Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture received a delegation from Mali, in partnership with the Japanese Cooperation (JICA). This Japanese mission focused on discussions on the management model of the Kaolack fish market, which was built in 2003 and has now become a benchmark in Senegal.

It is in this context that a Malian association, which is active in fishing activities, came to draw inspiration from the partnership model between the municipality and the CCIAK. For Ndèye Lobé Lam, deputy mayor of Kaolack, who welcomed the delegation, "this approach by Malians to draw inspiration from our model to boost their sector of activity delights us. They have seen that since Mayor Serigne Mboup has been at the head of the municipality, he has continued to take action. The first thing he did was to renew the town hall service, which was in total lethargy. There were many problems in terms of salary delays and other issues. But in two years, the municipal team has managed to develop the market. They have managed to resolve all the problems that existed at this level," she rejoiced, after a guided tour of the market, to allow the guests to see and explain how it has become a leading shopping center in Senegal.

For its part, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the visit and the results already achieved. The Malian association took the opportunity to encourage a partnership between a group of fishmongers from Bamako and one from Kaolack.

Both parties intend to go beyond this agreement for the exploitation of fresh fish and explore value chains such as the exploitation of the drying sub-sector, Kaolack having two centers which were set up by Promovilles.

Mrs. Diawara Aïssata Touré, President and CEO of the Bamako Central Fish Market, welcomed this initiative by JICA, the primary objective of which is to promote understanding and draw inspiration from the experience of Senegalese markets, which are now benchmarks for other African countries.

"Our market was inaugurated in 2011, but we don't have enough experience to achieve success. So the markets in Pikine and Kaolack wanted to support us so that we could draw inspiration from the management, especially the co-management of the two markets, and return to Bamako to try to find ways and means to succeed and even go beyond the two markets, because experience gives us ideas so that we can move forward."
