Mody Guiro (CNTS) interpelle l'État sur la dette intérieure et les licenciements

The Secretary General of the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS), Mody Guiro, took advantage of the installation ceremony of the steering committee of the National Stability Pact for inclusive and sustainable growth to alert the State to several urgent challenges threatening social peace.

Speaking on behalf of the workers' group, the union leader first welcomed the government's positive gestures, citing in particular the payment of financial increases to local government employees and the creation of the mining fund management committee, seeing this as a desire to build a Senegal of "social justice and stability."

Emergencies That Hinder Social Peace

However, Mody Guiro sounded the alarm on several unresolved issues which, according to him, constitute a "step backwards in social dialogue."

Domestic Debt

He called for the immediate settlement of domestic debt, which is "suffocating" companies in the construction and oil sectors, thus putting many jobs at risk.

The union representative demanded the immediate reinstatement of workers dismissed from various entities, specifically mentioning the Autonomous Port of Dakar, the Ministry of Mines, the Radisson Hotel in Diamniadio, and other public and semi-public companies.

He also denounced "unfair dismissals" and the "suppression of the establishment agreement at RTS".

The CNTS leader also called on the State to address other social liabilities, urging the Prime Minister to act on several fronts: implement the conclusions of the Transport General Assembly; liquidate the rights of workers in the abolished institutions, who have been without resources for months; address the critical situation of former railway employees and the crisis in the press sector; and reduce taxation, which is deemed too heavy on salaries.

In conclusion, Mody Guiro recalled that "no economic emergence is possible without social stability, and no social stability is sustainable without justice for workers." He thus called for an "active, inclusive and operational" social dialogue to ensure that the Stability Pact becomes a real lever for progress.
