Ndiassane rend hommage à Ahmed Bachir Kounta, une voix et une mémoire de la nation
On January 17, 2026, Ndiassane remembers one of its most illustrious sons, Ahmed Bachir Kounta, an emblematic figure of Senegalese Radio and Television (RTS) and one of the most respected faces in the media and religious landscape of Senegal.
He passed away on January 17, 2019 in Dakar at the age of 82, and remains in our memories as a great servant of the nation, whose exemplary career has marked several generations with his professionalism, intellectual rigor and constant commitment to Islam and national unity.
A distinguished journalist, Ahmed Bachir Kounta was renowned for his eloquence, poise, and masterful command of languages. He particularly distinguished himself by translating the presidential New Year's and Independence Day speeches into Wolof. It was a delicate task, which he carried out with solemnity and precision. Through this work, he enabled millions of Senegalese to grasp the nation's powerful messages, thus becoming a true bridge between the state and the people.
Born in 1937 in Saint-Louis, Ahmed Bachir Kounta was the son of the sixth Caliph General of Ndiassane, El Hadji Mame Bouh Mamadou Kounta. Heir to a prestigious religious lineage, he successfully combined spiritual tradition with civic engagement. Spokesperson and advisor to the Caliphs of Ndiassane from 1973 until his passing in 2019, he dedicated his life to defending the values of the religious community and promoting dialogue and cohesion within the Sufi brotherhoods.
Seven years after his passing, Ndiassane continues to celebrate the memory of a man whose voice, wisdom and integrity remain etched in the history of Senegal.
