Nioro : Coup de filet de la Gendarmerie au marché de Dinguiraye, 10 000 comprimés illicites saisis et 5 trafiquants arrêtés
The Nioro Territorial Brigade, under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Souleymane Thior, carried out a major operation as part of the fight against the illicit sale of medicines commonly known as street drugs. The gendarmes dismantled a criminal network operating at the weekly market in Dinguiraye, located in the commune of Paoscoto.
The police intervention followed a tip-off that alerted the chief gendarme of the Nioro brigade to the existence of an illicit drug trade in the area. Acting swiftly on this information, the brigade officers conducted a surprise raid on the weekly market site.
This operation proved particularly fruitful, as it led to the seizure of a large quantity of various types of medication, all of foreign origin. Investigators notably discovered veterinary drugs normally intended for animals, as well as a large quantity of aphrodisiac tablets.
In total, more than 10,000 tablets were seized during this operation, according to Seneweb sources.
The market value of the confiscated goods is estimated at 500,000 CFA francs, demonstrating the scale of the dismantled trafficking operation.
Five individuals, all of Senegalese nationality, were arrested as part of this operation. Among the suspects is a 75-year-old man.
Following the investigation conducted by the Nioro Territorial Brigade, the five accused will be brought before the High Court of Kaolack where they will answer to the charges brought against them.
